Don Noble Bookmaker Louth Billiards & Snooker League

NT Shaw Citroen will go into their final Snooker League fixture needing just one point to be mathematically certain of retaining the championship.

They have been leaders for the last six weeks and have looked odds-on favourites for the title in that time and they all but secured that silverware with a fine 8-4 home win over Don Noble Bookmaker.

Gary Skipworth put them in the driving seat with a 70 break as Chris Dixon and Mark Stephenson had them motoring on all fronts.

Malc Dixon added two more frames which more of less had the visitors buried because by the time Simon Adams had replied the horse had already bolted while J Melton Painters finished their campaign with a 7-5 home win over wooden spoon threatened Sibjon Builders.

Brian Endean and Sid Mountain put the away side in line for a shock win, but back came the hosts through Graham Evison, Jack Westerby and Alan Coppin to brush up a victory that should secure them the runners-up prize.

Kitchen Solutions are up to third but will need to hit double figures in their last match to get amongst the honours.

They played hosts to bottom placed Louth Building Supplies and struggled to a 7-5 win.

Mark Squires and Chris Dixon both took their opponents for a ride but hopes of a bigger score were dashed by Henry McSpadden whose two frames might help avoid the spoon while enjoying a great away day were Seymour and Castle who had too many volts for Louth Travel Centre shocking them 9-3.

The hosts never really got off the runway in this clash as Phillip Tamblin, Nick Bailey and Steve Swallow all made sure this one didn't go down to the wire and Harness and Cooper Joiners found that their opposition Castaline had a screw lose and took advantage with Mark Storey providing the perfect frames for the hosts who edged past their visitors by 7-5.

Billiards League

Into the final quarter of the Billiards League season and the title race is wide open as week 18 sees the leadership shared by three teams.

There was no match for one of these leaders with WA Jaines and Son sitting out hoping their rivals would all slip up, but they didn't with ABC Riding Wear hitting the 30 points mark with a vital 2-1 home win against MA Stephenson Autos.

Terry Espin and the in-form Mike Rice both won to step up their sides challenge as Lee Cook replied for the away outfit while Castaline make up the trio of top sides as they dumped the defending champions Naulls and Dales on their own patch 3-0.

It's good to see Sam Mountain back amongst the big breaks as his superb run of 62 set the visitors up with Phil Williamson and Keith Sowter (39) completing a great win while keeping in touch are Howdales Cattery who beat Tudor Driving School 2-1.

Harry Putland past his test for the visiting team but the hosts turned catty after that and got their claws stuck in with Phillip Tamblin and Gary Skipworth winning by more than a whisker.
