Don Noble snooker and billiards league action
J MELTON Painters have opened up a four points lead at the top of the snooker league after a superb 9-3 win over Don Noble Bookmaker.
The Bookies took an early two lengths lead but after that they were never at the races as the leaders began to paper over the cracks with Colin Stirton putting them in front.
They applied the perfect finish with both Paul Jacklin and Steve Taylor winning to complete a second successive big away victory.
Defending champions N T Shaw Citroen had to battle all the way before they eventually beat Louth Building Supplies 7-5.
Joe Hunt fired the hosts in front but the brakes on a runaway victory went on as Derek Adlam replied for the visitors.
Malc Dixon restored the second placed outfits lead and this time they held onto it and the win was secured.
Castaline lost ground in the race at the top when they went down to a heavy defeat in the visit to Louth Travel Centre.
The hosts have been struggling of late but they found their form in this one with Terry Robinson (26) and Brian Copeland giving them a much needed boost with a fine 8-4 win which dropped the away side down into fourth while one place higher are Seymour and Castle who won their top six encounter with Kitchen Solutions 7-5.
After a tight opening Simon Overton broke the deadlock with Mark Smith putting the hosts further in control.
Craig Young reduced the deficit but was unable to force the draw for his side.
Jeanettes Driving School and Harness and Cooper Joiners enjoyed a 6-6 draw where both teams had three winners.
Toby Vernon (38-27-22) and Pete Dales (29-21-21) were the driving force for the hosts and with Phil Marshall also taking two frames that should have been enough for a win, but the visitors had other ideas with Martin Turner, Tim Archer and Roy Storey returning the compliment and the points were shared.
Billiards League
W A Jaines and Son are the new leaders of the billiards league courtesy of their excellent 2-1 away win at Castaline.
It was the hosts who started the better with Phil Williamson taking the opener in their bid to reclaim top spot, but it was not to be as Barry Andrews levelled it all up and a 43 break from Steve Taylor deservedly settling the issue in favour of the visitors while M A Stephenson Autos are one of three sides occupying second place after their 2-1 success over Tudor Driving School.
Lee Cook and Dave Bailey both won to step up their teams challenge as Harry Putland grabbed a point for the visitors and there was a rare win for Naulls and Dales who beat Howdales Cattery.
Alf Crampin and Mark Storey gave the basement boys a first win as Dan Blythe replied in a 2-1 defeat as the league table gets ever tighter.
