They took a first-half lead in a close-fought match courtesy of Mikey Baldwin-McGhee’s goal and Oliver Croft’s penalty.

The Cordeaux defence prevented further damage after the break as their opponents played some fine football, but with just minutes to go, man-of-the-match Henry James put Sam Jewel through to slot the third and cap a superb team performance.

* A team of King Edward girls represented Lincolnshire at the regional rugby finals at Market Harborough last week.

They played some stunning rugby until they met the Bedfordshire champions, but ended the day in a respectable fifth place from 10 counties. Their only defeats came to both of the eventual finalists.

The players’ player award was shared between Grace Parrot and Emily Sturgess.
