Louth Old Boys play Discoveries Tone and Tan

The Louth Old Boys U9 Reds took on Discoveries Tone and Tan this past Sunday away at Ross sports ground Grimsby. The Grimsby side started the day fourth in the table and had already netted a staggering 94 goals in 13 games.

The U9 Reds attacked from the kick off exactly how was practiced on Tuesday training session and mounted an early attack to the surprise of the Grimsby side. As the game progressed the Discoveries got their first attack which was superbly dealt with by Alfie T, Jay C and Tom S in defence. A second and third attack was defended or saved by Connor in goal.

The Old boys team then created an opening with Max F, Callum W and Ryan S raining shots down on goal each one cleared the ball eventually came out to Tom S who drilled it into the bottom corner. 0-1.

A frustrated Grimsby team then attacked but the Old boys team defended to half time.

Second half was much of the same superb passing play by the reds which was undoing the Grimsby side, Josh F going close but his shot just wide of the post.

The Discoveries side started moving players around to try and capture an equaliser but a long goal kick set Max on one of his many runs with a pin point cross straight onto the end of Callum’s right foot slotting into the bottom corner 0-2. A superbly worked goal.

We defended to the helm for the final 5 minutes with even a 5 on 1 attack by the Grimsby side but Connor bravely took the ball from the feet of the attacking number 9.

More Clearances from Tom, Alfie and Jay kept them at bay. Final whistle to cheers from the Louth Supporters. A superb display of football with a well overdue and deserved win
