Louth Six-a-Side League expands to 20 teams

Trophy presentations were made to crown last season’s champions before the new Louth Leader Six-a-Side League campaign got under way.

Premier League champions Old Boys and runners-up Louth Legends took the team prizes, while Ellis Barker earned the player of the season award, pipping Chris Ella.

Louth All Stars and Game of Throw-Ins were presented with their Championship trophies and medals as winners and runners-up, respectively, with Daniel Marsh of Real SoSoBad getting the player of the season award.

The league welcomed several new teams as it expanded from 16 to 20 teams for the new season. The newcomers are Petr Cech Yourself, Team P&B, LA Crusaders, Golden Oldies and Louth OG’z.

* In the Premier, newly-promoted Louth All Stars continued where they left off in the Championship by beating Team P&B 8-0 in their first match to top the league.

Louth Legends faced last season’s Championship runners-up, Game of Throw-Ins who gave themselves a mountain to climb at half-time and went on to lose 4-0. Old Boys benefited with a 5-0 walkover win against Manby, and Marshall BMW and Petr Cech Yourself battled out a goalless draw.

Mark Donner made hard work of LA Crusaders before running out eventual winners 6-2 in a superb opening week of the new season.

* The Louth Leader Championship saw Real SoSoBad benefit with a 5-0 win as newcomers Louth OG’z had only just registered that day and were unable to play.

Dragon Men were clinical in a 4-0 win over Golden Oldies where fitness proved the difference after an even first half which Dragons led 1-0.

Stroke T finally came out on top against BF Pitches in a very close match-up, winning 2-1. Job Centre XI also opened with a victory in a game of two halves as they eventually overcame Sub Standard 5-4 in a thriller.

#DS9 and Susie’s Stars looked to be heading for a 0-0 draw until a great second half strike gave the Stars a 1-0 win.
