A YOUNG footballer from Sutton on Sea has gone against the grain to seek his own kit sponsorship from local businesses.
Tom Simpson, 15, a striker for Boston United’s Centre of Excellence, decided to find his own funding for expenses rather than rely on others such as his parents.
He has so far raised £445 for his kit sponsorship, much of which has come from his main sponsors Alford Plastics and Mablethorpe Seafood.
Tom said: “My dad has bought my kit in previous years so I thought I would try to help out this year.”
Tom is skipper of his age group and scored twice on the opening game of the season against Deerham Centre. He has played for Sutton Rovers in the past and holds the record for most goals in a season for the club.
David Marsland, ex-professional footballer and now Town Councillor for Mablethorpe, Trusthorpe and Sutton on Sea added: “It is so nice to see a talented local lad thinking of the costs of his chosen sport and doing something about raising it rather than relying on the bank of Dad.”
Tom has recently taken part in county trials and is now waiting to find out if he has been selected.
