Under 18 Lincolnshire Intermediate Football League kicks off with new sponsor Starglaze Windows

UNDER 18 boys football in Lincolnshire and surrounding area starts this weekend in its new season with new vigour and several new clubs and teams ready for new challenges in this well established local youth league.

After 17 years of success developing youth footballers and providing keen competition, the Lincolnshire Intermediate Football League this year sponsored by local Lincoln firm Starglaze Windows and Home Improvements, kicks off this weekend on Sunday September 9 with all four divisions having their first fixtures

In the LIFL Premier which has expanded to 12 teams we have new LIFL clubs Gainsborough Trinity, Grantham Town, JFC Boston joining last year’s champions Lincoln United, and regulars Bottesford Town, Ruston Sports along with Lincoln Moorlands Railway.

Promoted to this premier youth league were Cleethorpes Town, Louth Old Boys, Sleaford Town’s JFC and Boys teams and last year’s LIFL South Champions Wyberton Colts.

It looks like a very strong league with some great local derby matches to follow.

The North League looks stronger this season with more teams competing. Appleby Frodingham have a team joining along with new comers from Brigg, Kirton, Messingham and Park Tigers. Bottesford Town, Retford and Saxilby make up the competition.

The Central League has a familiar look about it with several former LIFL Clubs returning this season. Metheringham, Nettleham, Navenby and Woodhall Spa. New clubs welcome to our league are Hykeham Tigers with two teams, Waddington United and Kirkstead.

In the South League five new clubs have joined making up 11 teams in the division. We welcome Fishtoft, Pointon, Sibsey, Swineshead Institute and Swifts. Ruston Sports, Billinghay, Cranwell and Young Dons remain to contest this championship.

So in spite of the general trend in junior football showing a decline in numbers, the well organised LIFL with its new Sponsors Starglaze are showing growth and development in youth football on Sundays with support from senior local clubs and youth clubs progressing to intermediate levels all keen to play and enjoy our wonderful game.
