Video: England captain Casey Stoney inspires North Somercotes students

Inspiration through sport was the message brought to Birkbeck School in North Somercotes by England women’s football captain Casey Stoney on Friday.

The Lincoln City Ladies defender and Team GB captain in the 2012 Olympics visited the school to speak to pupils about her career and life.

After giving a whole-school assembly Casey spoke to a group of gifted and talented PE students as part of Sky Sports’ Living for Sport project.

Casey has picked up 105 caps in a glittering career in the women’s game which saw her named FIFA International Player of the Year award in 2007-8 as well as Premier League and two FA Cup medals.

She told the Leader she felt immensely privileged to be able to pass on her life experiences to the students.
