KENWICK Park Golf Club Captain Simon Hartley and Lady Captain Lynda Cahalin celebrated the start of their new season in style when they officially declared the newly renovated and refurbished clubhouse open for business for their first mixed competition of the year.

Unfortunately an injury prevented Simon from taking part but a past Captain John Ashton took his place.

Cold weather did not deter the competitors from enjoying the AM AM format with two scores to count on each hole and the points scored being doubled on one hole.

A countback on 83 points was needed to separate the top two teams with Graham and Sue Sykes, Neil Pridgeon and Julia Sales being declared the winners. Simon Lidgard, Joe Howden, Lewis Hackett and Di Watkinson came second.

Lady Captain Lynda Cahalin, Colin and Sue Burkitt playing with John Ashton scored 80 to take the third spot.

Mark Ringland shot the lowest gross and won division one of the men’s March medal with a good score of 74-5 = 69 on a countback from Ben Bierley (8). John Payne (7) came third with a net 70.

In division two Mark Grayson was the outright winner with 95-19 = 66. Robert Wilson (24) came second with a net 71 from Jonathan Davies (24) with a 72.

In a warm up match for the season, the B team under the leadership of Nick Fox were delighted to beat Dave Hackett’s A team by a margin of seven games to three.

On a cold and foggy day which made the conditions difficult, the ladies played the qualifying round of the Peugeot Coronation Foursomes.

With Polly Pike’s pitch shots landing close to several flags and Sue Burkitt sinking putts from all over the greens, it was no surprise to their partners when they won the qualifying round with 31 points and now go on to represent the club in this national competition.

Di Watkinson and Margaret Williams Were beaten on a countback into second place.
