WITH over 1,500 different species of flora and fauna to look after, the members of Kenwick Park Golf Club’s environmental panel are very busy and to raise funds for the valuable work they do on the course, they held a Texas Scramble.
Sixteen teams of four took part and scored a total of 28 birdies between them all.
The team of Jane and Bob Briggs, Walt Rogerson and Jason Bartup chalked up seven of these to record an incredible score of 63 – 5.9 = 57 to win the event.
Vice Captain Colin Burkitt, his wife Sue, Simon Lidgard and Di Watkinson came second with 69 – 7.2 = 61.8.
Third place was claimed by Graham and Sue Sykes joined by Roger and Julia Labbett with 68 - 6 = 62.
Due to the bad weather delaying matches being played, the winter league has just been completed and Julia Sales and Freda Cooper have been declared the winners.
The ladies played the qualifying round for the Pauline Jackson Rosebowl with the top 16 going through to matchplay rounds.
Val Pattinson (17) played the best golf of her life scoring 86 - 17 = 69 to win from the Lincolnshire Ladies County Captain Julia Sales who also played extremely well to shoot 80 - 9 = 71 to claim the runners-up prize.
Kate Roberts (28) was placed third with a net 73.
Elaine Houlton celebrated her round as she scored her first hole in one using her seven wood at the 149 yards 12th hole.
