Louth Billiards & Snooker League

WITH the Snooker League title seemingly stopping with the present leaders NT Shaw Citroen all eyes were turned to the battle for second spot and J Melton Painters boosted their hopes with a first win in five this being an excellent 8-4 result over Castaline.

The hosts have been off colour just recently but found the right finish in this match with Martyn Taylor and Jack Westerby both winning as Steve Taylor and Alan Coppin both hit 35 breaks while driving forwards into third are Jeanettes Driving School who thrashed top six counterparts Seymour and Castle 9-3.

Nick Bailey proved to be the only bright spark for the hosts as the visitors accelerated away with a superb win with Phil Marshall, Mark Wilkinson, Jez Swaby and Pete Dales putting their opponents lights out.

Kitchen Solutions recent hot streak came to an end when they lost 8-4 at home at the rapidly improving Harness and Cooper Joiners side.

The hosts were looking to step up their challenge for the runners-up prize but they were hardly at the table as Dave Cartwright and Mark Storey turned the screw on their now fourth placed opposition while Sibjon Builders might be bottom of the league but they have the top receive break player in Sid Mountain who playing in their match against Louth Building Supplies fired in a very impressive 37.

The hosts did win the match by 7-5 with Tony Byrne, Geoff Fawcett and Henry McSpadden all keeping their team above their rivals who are now six points adrift despite Pete Mountain also winning both his frames.

The mid-table encounter between Louth Travel Centre and Don Noble Bookmaker saw the latter come out winners by 7-5.

In a tight affair it was Tim Brown who proved to be the match winner with his lone 2-0 being the difference as the rest all drew.

Billiards League

WA Jaines and Son have the Billiards leadership to themselves courtesy of their fine 2-1 away win against title rivals MA Stephenson Autos.

Steve Taylor and Pat O-Reilly gave the visitors the sight of the loot but Lee Cook saved the day for the hosts who are now fourth while it's down to second for ABC Riding Wear who lost 2-1 at home to Howdales Cattery.

The visitors are still just off the title pace but boosted their ambitions with Joe Hunt and Dan Blythe both upsetting last week's joint leaders who were glad to see Terry Espin grabbed a priceless point and Castaline are back amongst the front runners after they netted a full catch beating Tudor Driving School 3-0.

The hosts are now up to third after Alan Mountain, Same Mountain and Keith Sowter all put the brakes on the visitors who remain one off the bottom.
