LOUTH Indoor Bowls Club’s Men’s Over 60s team handed out a 157-64 thrashing to Long Sutton in their county match last week.
The contest was as good as over after just five ends with Louth already 30 shots in front. By halfway the margin had increased to 54 shots thanks to two home rinks streaking ahead although a couple of visiting rinks were offering stubborn resistance.
By the end, however, Louth had overwhelmed their opponents and only failed to secure a five-rink whitewash due to one Long Sutton rink winning four of their last five ends to snatch a draw.
The Mixed ‘A’ team also won their home match against Spalding by 107-98 but gained only two rink wins. The overall victory was partly due to one rink winning 3-12 but also because two of Louth’s losing rinks kept the margin down.
It had been a fairly close contest up until the 15th end but Louth then opened up a 19 shots lead before the visitors reduced this over the final three ends.
Three club members were engaged in a County Ladies Triples match at Grantham and did vey well to beat the home trio by 13-11. Well done to Wendy White, Joan Stones and Jackie Brothwell.
In the club leagues Vic White and Yvonne Roper maintained their unblemished record in the Tuesday Mixed Pairs, but only just, with a 11-9 win over Ken and Sheila Webster.
At long last Rovers secured their first win in the Wednesday/Thursday morning triples with a last-gasp 12-11 victory against next-bottom Binbrook.
