Louth Taverners hosted Sutton-on-Sea on Sunday looking to continue their winning form after beating the league leaders Alford in their previous game.

Sutton skipper won the toss and having elected to bat in perfect conditions, openers Reece and Poynton started well, negotiating good seam bowling from Luke Johnson and Richard Bell.

They took the score to 47 when Keaton Critchell came on and removed the dangerous Reece, courtesy of Cheema’s diving catch in the slips.

Odlin joined Poynton and continued to score steadily, taking the score to 74 when Poynton was smartly stumped by debutant Tom Law off Critchell. Cheema, bowling his off spin from the other end, took two wickets to reduce Sutton to 104-4.

With the wicket suiting spin, Louth skipper Zubair Ahmed introduced Zeeshan Ahmed, whose left-arm spin took the Sutton batsman by surprise, claiming four wickets in three overs for only eight runs as Sutton were bowled out for 116 in 30 overs.

Louth started the chase aggressively, with Zeeshan, in particular, attacking the opening bowlers with classy cover drives. He was out for a quick 23 when he was run out after a mix-up.

Cheema also chipped in with 35 and despite losing five wickets, Henry Tye’s unbeaten 43, including nine boundaries, made sure there were no further slip-ups in chasing the small total, reaching it in only 14 overs.

Louth travel to Southbank on Sunday, hoping to continue their winning form.
