Bolting brothers Jevon and Lucas George-Jones both took wins for Louth Athletic Club at the Cleethorpes Athletic Club Open Cross Country meeting last Sunday.

Lucas was first in the under 11s race and older brother Jevon won in the under 13s.

There were also strong performances in the under 11s boys race from Louth teammates Declan Temperton (21st) and Freddie Rhodes (26th) whilst Hannah Reid was fourth in the under 13s girls.

Louth runners Kerry Stainton, Debbie Simpson and Lisa Harkess did an exceptional job to win silver in the ladies team event after Kerry and Debbie competed in the gruelling Gruesome Twosome off-road half-marathon the day before.

Kerry won silver in the veteran women’s race and Lisa bronze in the senior.

May Ashton-Jones was second in the under 17 women’s race and with fellow Louth runners Skye Kirkham and Natalie Stainton took the silver team prize.

Louth’s men weren’t far behind with Jason Stainton, Luke Conway and Sean Topham winning bronze in the team event, Luke winning the junior category and Jason taking bronze in the veteran age group.

Nearly 400 runners took part in the Gruesome Twosome last Saturday, a half-marathon that starts in the village of Swallow in the Lincolnshire Wolds.

All runners enter in teams of two and must finish the multi-terrain race together.

First pair home for Louth was Kevin Wallis and Kerry Stainton who finished sixth in the mixed team category in 1.43.42.

Among the other pairs running for Louth were Steve Hunt and Duncan Worrel (1.54.38), Mick Dean and Debbie Simpson (1.56.11), Leighton Smith and Phil Jackson (2.06.01), Steve Windsor and Alex Lawrie (2.08.49), Simon Harrison and Shelley Huggill (2.16.02), and Fiona Lawrie and Clare Koslow (2.19.01).

Louth AC host the first Lincolnshire Runner Cross Country League match at the London Road ground on Sunday 26 October.
