ATHLETICS: Mablethorpe couple rise to Hull 20-mile challenge

Husband and wife team Jane and Maurice Lammiman headed to Humberside on Sunday for the East Hull 20-mile road race.

This is an annual return for Mablethorpe Running Club’s Jane, who has ran the course many times before improving her time on each attempt. But for Maurice, who’s unaffiliated, running is an occasional pastime, more of a rare challenge than a hobby.

Maurice rose to this extraordinary challenge, his first timed 20-mile road race, finishing 389th in 3h 27m 42s.

Jane once again recorded a personal best (knocking almost seven minutes off last year’s time) finishing 421st in 4h 10m 52s.

The race was won by Aaron Scott of Notts AC in an incredible time, just 1h 45m 13s.

Mablethorpe Running Club is offering a gentle (and free) introduction to the joys of running with a couch to 5k programme. No matter how slow you go, it really doesn’t matter, you’re still lapping everybody on the couch.

It is held every Monday throughout March at the clubhouse at 6.30pm.

Simply turn up, see the website or call Paul on 01507 463580 for more information.

The club meets at Mablethorpe Athletics Club on Sherwood Fields in Mablethorpe at 6.30pm every Monday and Thursday. Anyone, whatever your age or ability, are most welcome to run. For more visit www.mablethorperunningclub.org.uk/
