Cleethorpes AC runner Ryan Page stormed to victory and took the course record in the third annual Louth Athletic Club Belchford Three Churches 10k on Sunday.
With a starting line under three inches of water, torrential rain, high winds and several tough climbs to battle against, Sunday’s race was always going to be challenging.
But scores of runners from across the county, along with a group of dedicated marshals and race officials, braved the weather and were rewarded with a race with a series of spectacular views over the Lincolnshire Wolds.
Winner Ryan Page completed the 10k course in 36.22 and held off unattached local runner Jamie Pratt, who came second in 36.55.
First home for Louth AC was Jason Stainton who finished third in 39.28.
It was a double victory for Cleethorpes AC, with Jill Otley winning the women’s race in 45.37.
Louth AC’s Jo Jackson was second in 48.13 and unattached runner Jill Bell was third in 51.19.
In the veteran age group categories, Carl Emmerson (unattached) and Fay Parker (Newark Notfast Running Club) were first for the over-40s in 41.04 and 55.31,
Louth pair Kevin Wallis and Jutta Meiwald were the first over-50s in 43.04 and 51.20, and Alan Williams (Cleethorpes AC) and Janet Harmston (Skegness Coasters) won the over-60s category in 56.58 and 55.16.
Special mention and thanks must also be made of all the volunteers who stood in the pouring rain to make the race run smoothly.
