After their run as a duo last month at the Worksop Half Marathon, Roger Blake and Wayne Kew entered the Clowne Half Marathon for the first time on Sunday.
Situated between Worksop and Chesterfield the race is organised by Clowne Road Runners. Starting and finishing in Clowne town centre the course is definitely undulating, it involved over 500 feet of climbing.
Wayne battled considerable discomfort running with his knee strapped so rather ran to finish rather than as a race, but still managed to finish in the top quarter.
Roger took Wayne’s advice to push on breaking his half marathon PB for the third time this year. Roger finished 106th in 1h 33m 40s, Wayne 146th in 1h 37m 01s.
The first ever Cleethorpes Maravan took place at weekend, a unique double marathon event run on almost entirely empty roads of a virtually deserted caravan park.
This regulated event was a seven lap route through Thorpe Caravan Park and on the paths of the nearby golf course, with one 26.2 mile marathon on the Saturday and the same again on Sunday.
For the hardened few, ultra runner Chris Rainbow from Mablethorpe RC decided to do the double marathon as he has a love of “pointless challenges”.
Despite heavy rain at times during the weekend, on Saturday Chris finished second in 3h 20m 10s and on Sunday he was again second in 3h 25m 55s. However, he was first overall across both days.
Match 3 of The Lincolnshire Runner XC League 2014/2015 took place at Riseholme College.
