Louth Indoor Bowls Club’s Men’s Over 60s team came up with a good 108-76 aggregate shots victory in their home match against Horncastle.
They won on four of the five rinks and could have won all five, but in a topsy-turvy finish could easily have lost two rinks. Best winning margin for Louth was the comfortable 29-13 victory by Bob Ledgerwood, David Wise, Pete Stainton and Paul Radford. George Willoughby’s rink of Keith Kelly,
David Evans and Steve Moore came good over the last six ends to win 22-10 whilst Colin Smith skipped his rink to a 22-15 win.
After struggling to pick up shots John Welsh’s rink found themselves 19-10 behind after 15 ends but suddenly found some magic to win five of the last six ends and steal a one-shot victory. It had been a close game on the other rink where Horace Cope’s four led 15-12 with four ends to play but the Louth men failed to score again and went down 18-15.
In the club leagues there were a few exciting finishes to games. In the Friday Mixed Pairs Colin and Carol Smith grabbed five shots on the final end to beat John Welsh and Wendy White 17-16. The Smiths had scored a ‘4’ to level at 12 each only for their opponents to take a 16-12 lead before the last-end decider, which kept the victors at the top of the table on shots difference.
In the Ladies Triples, Jayees raced into a 12-0 lead against Keddies only for their opponents to turn things around and edge in front at 16-14, but Jayees trio of Carol Smith, Veronica Hillier and Liz Draper recovered to score three shots on each of the last two ends for a 20-16 victory.
