Louth school pupils made a splash at a county gala as they picked up a title and a further podium position.

St Michael’s Primary School and their Year 3 and 4 Swimming Squad won the county finals for larger schools as part of the Lincolnshire School Games.

The team pushed St Andrew’s, Woodhall Spa, into second place with Malcolm Sargent School, from Stamford, completing the top three.

There were further celebrations for St Michael’s Year 5 and 6 squad who came an excellent third in their age group, finishing behind the much larger schools of runners-up Horncastle Primary and winners Westgate Academy, of Lincoln.

St Michael’s headteacher Paul Fox said: “We love swimming at St Michael’s and all our children, from foundation stage through to Year 6, go to the Meridian for a block of lessons.

“Swimming is great for health and fitness, builds confidence, raises self-esteem and is a valuable life-long skill.

“Many of our children progress to our local club, Louth Dolphins. Becoming county champions is the icing on the cake!”
