Free Mablethorpe athletics proves a success

OVER 50 people took part in athletics on the beach last week thanks to a free session at Mablethorpe Running Club.

Lincolnshire Athletics Network offered adults and children the chance to take part in standing long jump, triple jump, speed trap and javelin events on Monday, June 20.

The event was supported by Mablethorpe Running Club and aimed to increase participation in athletics in the local area.

Rachel Belcher, Athletics Co-ordinator at Lincolnshire Sports Partnership, said: “The whole evening was fantastic. It was a real family occasion which was excellent to see. All the events went down very well; especially the throws for the older participants and the speed trap for the younger participants. It was great to move it to Mablethorpe beach as it gave the children an even bigger area to explore and take part in the sports.”

All the participants who took part in the event had the opportunity to enter a competition to win a free family ticket for the Aviva UK Trials which are taking place in Birmingham in August. The winner was Denzil Phillips.
