GOLF: Howsham seals May Medal and handicap reduction

The Kenwick Park Golf Club men played the May medal recently and Sean Howsam won division one with a great score of 77-9=68 and reduced his handicap by one shot.

Chris Davies came second scoring 79-8=71 on a countback from both David Hallifax (10) and Steve Thompson (12). In division two, Chris Dixon had a fine round of 87-20=67 to take the top spot from runner-up Nick Harvey with 84-16=68. Both Chris and Nick reduced their handicaps by two shots with their excellent scoring. Lewis Hackett shot the best gross of the day with his round of 75.

The first round has been played of a very popular nine-hole stableford competition played on six Thursdays evenings over the summer with the best three rounds of each player being used to decide the winner.

Jim Dindale (14), won the first round with 22 points and Nick Cudmore (14) came second with 20. Peter Rogers (9), scored 19 to take third place on a count back from Gary Spencer (7), Kay Smart (30) and Ben Darke (8).

After Sunday’s storms, the weather held fair for the Bank Holiday Mixed Invitational AM AM with two scores to count at each hole. 11 teams of four took part and Julie Harvey and son Nick playing with Rob and Annie Oliver from Woodhall Spa won with 73 on a countback from Mike and Lesley Burton playing with Trevor and Pam Hayward.

With 70 points, third place went to Clive and Carol James playing with Paul and Cheryl Gilliatt.

The ladies played a qualifying round of this national competition to decide who goes forward to represent Kenwick Park in the next round. Sister-in-laws Julie Harvey and Lesley Burton won with 33 points.
