Louth boxer Nathan Underwood retained his unbeaten record with a fine points win over Gary Cartwright (Sommercotes Boxing Academy).
Underwood travelled to Chesterfield to represent Lincoln’s Terry Allen Unique Boxing Club, and was up against a much taller and more experienced Derby opponent who also boasted an unbeaten record.
He showed no signs of nerves during his preparations for the bout which saw three nights a week of training in Louth and two more at Allen’s gym in Lincoln.
Training went to plan and Underwood was in good condition for the contest with his team of coaches encouraged by his progress in the gym.
In the opening round the Louth boxer demonstrated his boxing skills with fast jabs and good movement.
And when his opponent pushed forward, Underwood landed a quick left hook, putting Cartwright on the canvas.
He then showed good composure not to leave himself open to the counter punches and finished the round on top.
An even second round saw both boxers swap punches, and Underwood returned to his corner at the end of it looking confident.
Coach Colam Forman gave out the instructions for the last round and his charge put them into action.
A step to the right followed by a solid right hand put Cartwright down once again, but the Derby fighter got up more determined to turn the bout in his favour.
However, Underwood’s superior boxing skills saw him through to a fine points win.
