Louth edge a close contest on the final ends

THE Louth Indoor Bowls Club’s Mixed ‘A’ team were involved in a closely fought county match at home against Skegness on Saturday with the outcomes on four rinks not decided until the last couple of ends.

But at the close it was Louth who won all five rinks in the 103-79 victory.

At the halfway stage Skegness had a slight advantage on two rinks and were ahead on aggregate by just one shot.

After 15 ends the visitors still held sway on two rinks but Louth now had the overall lead by 10 shots.

And it was the home team who enjoyed the final few ends especially Alan Watson’s rink who won their last six ends while John Welsh’s rink grabbed a five on the 16th to take the lead.

Louth’s best winning margin (23-14) was by the rink made up of T Neilsen, M Hewson, A Watt and J Jacklin.

The club’s Ladies did not fare so well in their Yetton Trophy match against Lincoln, losing 96-63.

The competition is played over four rinks, two home and two away, and Louth could only manage one win - the home rink skipped by Mary Rock which notched a very good 25-14 win.

In the club’s league’s there are still five ‘100 per cent’ records still intact, two of them involving the Roper household.

Wife Yvonne tops division 1 of the Tuesday Pairs with brother Vic White whilst husband Dave is top of division 2 with Judy Jacklin.

In the Friday Pairs Dave and Berni Barnett lead division 2 while Kevin Jerromes and Janie Kendall are top of division 3.

Best run so far though is the nine out of nine by Legends in the Men’s Over 60 division 2.

Highest score from last week’s matches was by Motley Crew who hammered Blossom Way 28-6 in the Thursday Evening Fours to establish themselves in second place behind Chalkers who had a 21-4 stroll over Jet Set 2000.
