The Staples mixed competition was played early at Louth Golf Club to allow members to watch what should have been the final day of The Open.

The inclement weather at St Andrews did not materialise south of the border, and Myra and Howard Greenwood were in winning form.

They scored a magnificent 42 points in this foursomes stableford which was open to family-related pairs. Sandra and Bob Conway (35) were second ahead of Alan Simmons and Pam Hayden (32).

* The Louth GC ladies’ stableford was won by Philippa Winter with 35 points last Tuesday, on countback from Peggy Hales.

Julie Atkinson was four points back in third and Fliss Smith was fourth.

At the presentations, trophies were also given out for other recent competition.
