Louth Indoor Bowls Club men’s team made it through to round two of the area stage of the Denny Cup when beating Scunthorpe 75-60 on aggregate shots.
The competition is played over four rinks, two at home and two away, and Louth won three of them.
Allan Dent (Snr) led his rink to a 25-15 win, while there were wins for the fours led by Alan Dent (Jnr) by 17-11, and Simon Reeson (18-13).
The next round is played on Saturday morning when Louth face Doncaster.
* The club was not so successful in the preliminary round of the Top Club competition, losing 49-71 at home to Hornsea.
This is a five-rink contest incorporating men’s and ladies’ singles, plus mixed pairs, triples and fours.
Simon Reeson and Wendy Blyth managed a 14-9 win in the pairs, and the triples team of Tony Musson, Mark Freemantle and Val Sherry led for most of their game but dropped a two on the final end to lose 15-14.
The men’s and ladies’ singles were lost 15-7 and 16-7, respectively, and the fours team went down 16-7.
* In the club leagues, Canaries opened up a three-point lead at the top of the Ladies’ Triples League.
They continued their unbeaten run with a 14-9 win over Anglers who lost second spot to Rolling Scones, 19-8 victors over Jayees.
* Rockset moved top of the Evening Fours League on shots difference after a 29-10 victory over Questors, while previous leaders APS were beaten 15-8 by Roundheads.
Fast Shippers consolidated their third place after steaming to a 34-3 win against Wayouts.
* In the Tuesday Mixed Pairs, Harry Putland and Tina Reeson maintained their 100 per cent record with a one-sided 44-4 win.
Second-placed Brian and Val Sherry lost for the first time in a last-end decider to Roy Tear and Sylvia Stainton, 17-16.
