Highgate Wanderers were back on form with two wins last week to maintain their four-points lead at the top of Louth Indoor Bowls Club’s Morning Triples League.

They overpowered Mudlarks by 28-5 and then eased to a 16-8 victory over Falcons. Second-placed Yorkies also won 16-8 against In A Minute and then beat Two Plus One 18-14, but almost let it slip having held a 15-5 lead.

The Jays lost any hope of challenging for the runners-up spot after suffering two defeats. Against Two Plus One they were always chasing the game and lost 14-12, but against Mudlarks they had led 8-1 before becoming bogged down as their opponents turned it around with 15 unanswered shots on their way to an eventual 18-9 win.

Two defeats left Seagulls perched on the bottom rung one point behind Falcons. They were beaten 21-12 by Magpies then 18-12 by In A Minute, although they did gain some pride in the latter game by recovering from 13-0 down.

In the remaining game, Dreamers defeated Magpies 22-11.

The club is holding an open day on Sunday, August 23, between 10am and 6pm when members of the public can go along and have a go at the game free of charge. Members will be on hand to offer guidance.

Winter season opening begins on Tuesday, September 1 for the first three sessions of each day when the club closes at 4pm.

The 4pm and 6.30pm sessions resume the following week, and league fixtures start on Monday, September 14.
