History-making Louth swimmers punched above their weight as they took on some of the top clubs in the country at a regional final.

Louth Swimming Club’s junior squad broke new ground by winning the Lincolnshire Arena Junior Inter-League Swimming competition for the first time to qualify for the Northern Final.

The youngsters fought off seven other teams to take the county title, including runners-up Lincoln Vulcans.

Louth sent a squad of 31 swimmers to Birmingham where they competed against some of the top clubs in northern England – Stockport Metro, Southport, Gateshead and Whickham, Leicester Sharks and City of Leeds.

They were looked after poolside by coaches Matt Clarke, Charlotte Elliott-Wright, Tom Richardson and Lily Miller (girls’ senior captain) as well as club officials Graham and Sarah Richardson, and Ian Roscoe.

Louth swimmers were a credit to the club, producing fantastic team performance and lots of PBs to finish sixth.

Reuben Heywood (10), was Louth’s top swimmer, gaining the club’s only victory in the 10 year boys’ 50m breaststroke and a second place in the 50m butterfly event, also Louth’s only runners-up finish.

The club also had three third places from Daisy Price (girls’ 10yrs 50m breaststroke), and Phoebe Payne (girls’ 10yrs 50m backstroke and freestyle).

Individual fourth places went to Solomon Willmington (boys’ 10yrs 50m backstroke), Harriette Rowden-Jones (girls’ 11yrs 50m backstroke) and Libby Doubleday (girls’ 10yrs 50m butterfly, while the girls’ 9yrs 4x25m medley relay squad of Holly Giles, Casey Cleaver, Kaitlyn Gifford and Isabel Marritt were also fourth and gained a fifth place in their 4x25m freestyle relay.

Other fifth places went to the girls’ 10yrs 4x25 medley and freestyle relay team of Molly Pritchard, Daisy Price, Libby Doubleday, and Phoebe Payne, and the boys’ 10/u 4x25m medley relay team of Solomon Willmington, George Hendry, Reuben Heywood, and Harry Roworth, and the boys 11/u 4x25m medley relay team of Harvey Muns, Christian Rook, Robert Patch and Daniel Yeoman.

A special mention also goes also to Ruby Waring, Amelia Grantham, Isobel Leggate and Sam Baxter who swam in the prior rounds in the league.
