Mablethorpe Running Club member Roger Blake returned to Worksop for the fifth year running on Sunday for the annual Halloween Half Marathon.

The race, organised by Worksop Harriers Athletic Club, attracts competitors from all over the UK and even regulars from overseas.

Starting and finishing in Worksop town centre the course included almost 700 feet of climbing overall and a loop of paths around Clumber Park.

Roger was aiming to break the 1hr 35min mark, but in warm conditions lost momentum uphill from mile 11 to 12 and missed his target by just 16 seconds, finishing 301st in the 1,984-strong field in 1hr 35min 16secs.

Stuart Spencer (Notts AC) won for the second year running in a staggering time of 1.09.31.

* Mablethorpe RC’s Janine Stones took part in the inaugural Boston Parkrun at Witham Way Country Park on Saturday.

Of the 107 runners, Janine came seventh in a time of 20min 36secs, while Mark Harvey (Skegness Coasters) clocked the quickest time of 18.13.
