It was all go for brother and sister Archie and Ellie Rainbow as they followed in their parents’ athletic footsteps.
For the second time this year, the Mablethorpe Running Club juniors made their return to the popular Denis Lumbard Memorial open meeting hosted by Grimsby Harriers.
Well over a hundred competitors across all age groups, juniors and seniors, took part in the programme of track and field at the King George V Stadium in Grimsby.
Ellie, competing in the under 13 girls’ section, ran 100m in 16.18secs to finish seventh) and also ran her first timed 800m in 3min 24secs for ninth position. Archie (14) recorded a fabulous personal best in the under 15s boys’ 800m in 2min 25.6secs, knocking 11 seconds off his previous best to finish third.
* The siblings have also been competing in the Lincoln Wellington Athletic Club Summer Series.
In the most recent, 11-year-old Ellie ran the 1k in 4min 30secs (22nd), while Archie ran 3k in 11.06 for fourth spot.
After all the series race results were combined they both deservedly achieved places on the podium, Ellie finishing third in her age category, recording her best 1k time of 4min 13secs, while Archie came second in his age group with a best 3k time of 10min 42secs.
* Louth Athletics Club hosted their popular open cross country championships last weekend which attracted a good field which, of course, included Archie and Ellie along with their parents.
Racing on gruelling off-road, multi-terrain courses, the Rainbows performed well with dad Chris running the 9.7km distance in 40min 34secs to finish 14th.
Ellie completed the 3km course in 16min 32secs to finish eighth, while Archie came third after clocking 13.51 over the 3.7km distance.
* Mablethorpe Athletics Club meets at Sherwood Fields at 6.30pm on Mondays, for seniors and juniors (aged seven to 16 years) and Thursdays for seniors only.
