Market Rasen and Louth RFC were on the receiving end of another disappointing defeat on Saturday as they were beaten 33-24 by fellow Midlands One East strugglers Newark.

The Red and Greens were undone by a sensational hat-trick by substitute Ben Usher as Newark built a 21-7 lead by half-time with Leigh Dearden’s try and Meehal Grint’s conversion responding for the hosts.

Grint hit a penalty early in the second half, but hopes of a comeback were dashed as two further tries stretched Newark’s lead to 33-10.

Some pride was restored with late converted scores from Ben Chamberlin and Greg Wise, but the result left the out-of-form Red and Greens fourth-bottom going into the mid-season break.
