Michaela Goldring, from Kirmond le Mire, was in action at the Nottingham Wildcats Arena playing for the Newark Jaguars in the U19’s National Junior Wheelchair Basketball League.
There were two matches which were the culmination of the 2012/13 season, and Michaela scored in both games.
The first match, against a much more experienced Vikings team, saw the Jaguars take a pounding. Michaela opened the scoring for the Jaguars as she scored a free-throw after she was fouled on offence.
She went on to score again later in the game, but the size and strength of the Vikings team, which included two GB Junior International players, saw the Jaguars lose 50–19.
The second match though was a much closer game against the Norwich Lowriders. Michaela was again on the scoreboard, as the Jaguars played an extremely well disciplined Norwich team. Great defending by the Jaguars limited the Lowriders’ shooting opportunities, and with fast breaks and good team play, the Jaguars came away winners 25–19.
The Newark Jaguars are always looking for new junior players to come and join them. There are currently training sessions at Newark on Saturday afternoons, North Hykeham on Monday evenings and a new fun-club at Louth on Wednesday evenings.
