Monks’ Dyke Tennyson College proved unbeatable as they won two rounders tournaments.
A girls’ team, captained by Jade Cattell, won the Under 14s Wolds Rounders Tournament for the secon year running at De Aston School, in Market Rasen. They beat the home side 8-2.5 and then dismissed Caistor Yarborough School 3.5–1. Their own college’s B team were seen off 5-1.5 before defeating further local rivals, King Edward VI School, Louth, in their final game, 7-4, to be crowned winers.
Just days later a Year 10 boys’ team were crowned district champions at Cordeaux Academy after a dazzling performance.
Excellent hitting from Alec Newlove and Kris Jackson saw them through the group stages against Horncastle’s Queen Elizabeth Grammar School B (5-3) and QEGS, Alford (7–4).
Local rivals Cordeaux Academy were seen off 9-4 in the semi-finals before Monk’s Dyke pipped another Alford team in the final, 5–4 to win the title for the second year.
Head of PE and team coach, Steve Wright, praised the whole team, but also singled out the superb bowling of Jan Meiwald, the skill of Alex Aldrich at back stop and the outfield catching of Ed Birkett and Ollie Lyon.
He said: “I’m so proud of how well they all played and how they conducted themselves, they were a real credit to the College.”
