MALTBY Le Marsh darts brothers Sam and Robbie Hewson picked up more ranking points in the PDC Unicorn Youth Tour event at Wigan last weekend.
On the Saturday morning Sam saw off Tommy Lishman 4-1 in the opening round before beating 18th ranked Jake Jones 4-2 to progress into the last 32.
He found it tough going against top rank Arron Monk in the third round, but did manage three 100-plus checkouts before losing 4-1.
Younger brother Robbie, 17, had a bye in the opening round before beating 51st seed Josh McCarthy 4-2 in the second and Aaron Bateman 4-1 in the third.
He then took on tenth seed Jamie Landon, a previous tournament winner, winning 4-2 to put him through against 31st ranked he played George Killington.
Robbie did brilliantly to come from 3-2 down to win 4-3, finishing in two darts by hitting the bull double sixteen when Killington was left waiting on a double.
Robbie’s journey ended in the semi-final against senior professional and eventual winner Michael Smith, going down 4-2.
In the Saturday afternoon event both lads went out in the second round, Sam lost a 4-3 thriller to Jake Jones while Robbie was beaten 4-3 to fifth seed Josh Payne.
Sunday’s event saw Sam beat Ryan Maher in the opener then Cain Unwin in the second before going down 4-1 against Arron Monk in the third.
Robbie went out in the second round to Ryan Harrington, son of former world champion Rod Harrington, 4-3.
After a fine weekend for both players Sam is now ranked 56th and brother Robbie 62nd.
