MANY Kenwick Park Golf Club members turned out to see the Director of Golf Eric Sharp invite Simon Hartley to drive in as the new Club Captain.
Teams of four then played a nine-hole stableford competition before enjoying lunch in the clubhouse.
Brian and Mary Thaxter joined by Pip and Jean Mounfield scored 39 points to win the front nine. Mike and Lesley Burton together with Brian and Patsy Clark were second with 35.
Ed Davidson, Jim Cane, Frank Hamill and Jean Bee came third on a countback with 34.
Paul and Linda Marwood, John Payne and Peter Grantham won the back nine with 40 points.
The runners-up were Simon Lidgard, Lewis Hackett, Doug Gordon and Diana Watkinson with 39.
Third place went to Bob and Jane Briggs together with Karl Koslow and Walt Rogerson who scored 37.
To celebrate the arrival of the 2010 Beaujolais Nouveau, Captain Simon and Lady Captain Lynda drove around the course dispensing wine to all the competitors who took part in a nine-hole betterball competition.
Despite the wine, Ron Irwin and Brian Handley managed to score 21 points to win from runners-up Lady President Jenny Rickett and her partner Shirley Hemming with 20.
Third place went to Graham and Pam Hewstone with 19. Andrea Smaggasgale won the nearest the pin prize for the ladies on the 2nd hole and Byron Davies took the honours for the men on the 8th.
Following the fun competition, a French themed lunch was served.
Looking suspiciously like two characters from the series Allo Allo, the Captain gave his address in French whilst his Lady Captain acted as a translator.
