FINAL preparations are being made for October’s Mablethorpe Marathon, an event expected to bring in competitors from all corners of the region.

This year’s event takes place on October 2, and was given a huge boost last year when a three year £19,000 grant was awarded by the East Lindsey District Council’s Community Grant Scheme.

And the grant was recently recognised with a plaque presented by District Councillors Paddy Prince and Tony Howard, and was awarded to help the Marathon Committee make the event sustainable in the years to come.

The plaque was handed over prior to the committee’s monthly meeting.

Lynne Lamb, Treasurer of the Mablethorpe Marathon Committee, said: “The Community Grant awarded by East Lindsey District Council is a major boost for the committee. Having the knowledge that the core running costs are already funded prior to the event has enabled the group to focus on increasing public awareness and developing the event into a serious regional athletics event and also a fantastic family event.”
