A first-of-its-kind Skegness road race will ‘definitely go ahead’ next year, organisers have confirmed, after plans for this March were postponed due to safety fears.

Skegness Carnival Committee chairman Kris Bell ‘promised’ business representatives that the 10km running event would take place in 2014 at a meeting last week.

Speaking at the Skegness Business Breakfast held at the Grosvenor House Hotel on Thursday, Mr Bell said: “One thing I can promise is it will definitely go ahead in 2014 and we are really proud of that.”

The committee originally arranged the race for this March 24 but had to postpone due to safety fears about its planned route and a lack of time to arrange an alternative.

The cancelled event reportedly generated more than a thousand web hits in less than a week from runners all over the country, demonstrating to organisers its potential for success.
