YOUNG people in Mablethorpe are being offered the chance to gain qualifications and develop through sport.
Lincolnshire Sports Partnership have teamed up with CG Partnership, who have a learning centre in the town and work with young people aged 16 to 18 who are not in education, employment or training.
They will work with the sports partnership’s Sport Makers programme to encouage those youngsters to volunteer in sports projects to help the local community and encourage people to be active.
While doing this they will gain OCN qualifications for free from the CG Partnership.
Lizzie Couling, workforce development manager at Lincolnshire Sports Partnership, explained: “The London 2012 Games hopes to inspire more people to be involved with sport, but that doesn’t necessarily mean actively taking part.
“Sport Makers has been launched to encourage new volunteers in Lincolnshire; people who can give their time for other people and their local community. This partnership with CGP means that young people who aren’t currently in education or employment can learn new skills and enhance their CVs for later life.”
The project aims to recruit over 500 new sports volunteers in Lincolnshire over the next two years.
Anyone aged 16 and over can register to become a Sport Maker.
