Louth Fencing Club’s junior section recently had an amazing day at the Yorkshire Youth Championships.

The competition was a qualifier for the British Youth Championships, and the top four from each age group will represent Yorkshire in May at the prestigious Sheffield Institute of Sport.

The club had an impressive turnout of all 15 fencers, 13 of whom were eligible to qualify at foil.

Of these, 10 qualified with three members winning their age groups and becoming Yorkshire Champions.

Yorkshire Champions were Joe Blair, under 12s, Lottie Fry and Robert Kemp, under 14s.

The silver qualifier was William Lonsdale, and the bronze qualifiers were Emily Goolden, Sam Blair, Luke and Abbie Johnson, Wilf Broughton and Alex Judge.

Congratulations to the club’s three new fencers, Henry Unsworth, Caitlin Hall and Nick Freitas, who fenced really well with Nick winning a bronze medal in his first under 10s competition.

Coach Jim Harris said: “Year after year, the juniors seem to break their own records for attending competitions, the number of medals and Yorkshire Champions.

“They work very hard for this and we are very proud of them”
