SWIMMING: Louth prove they are still Masters of Lincolnshire

Louth Meridian Leisure Centre played host to the 27th annual Lincolnshire County ASA “Carol Patch Masters Championships and Team Trophy Award” competition and the home team came away with victory.

Louth Swimming Club competed against opposition from City Of Lincoln Pentaqua, Lincoln Vulcans, Gainsborough Dolphins, Deepings, Boston and Grantham.

The 28 swimmers from Louth SC (15 Ladies and 13 Men), varied in age from 18 to 62 and all contributed to victory.

Between the swimmers, they notched up a creditable 20 personal best times from 106 individual events swum and took home 67 individual medals.

Louth managed to win six out of the eight relay events held at the end of the competition. Louth won all the age groups Medley Relay events and two out of the four age groups for the Freestyle events.

And in the 18-24 yrs Freestyle Relay, Stephanie Gladding, Fred Schneider, Rebecca Dunning and Tom Richardson set a new county championship record. They swam 4 x 25m in a time of 51.07 breaking the previous record that Louth set in 2012 of 51.77.

Notable individual performances came from the following swimmers; Victoria Ellis (30-34 yrs), a newcomer to this competition, who took home a haul of four Gold medals for individual swims plus she was a member of the dual winning 120-159 relay squads, earning herself a further two Gold medals.

Tommy Schneider (50-54 yrs) also won four individual Gold medals and a further two Gold’s and one Silver from three relay events he took part in.

Tom Richardson (18-24 yrs), also gained first place in all four of his individual swims and was victor in both his 18-24 Relay events, gaining a County Championships record in the Freestyle. Tom also bagged a Championship record in the 50m Backstroke event, finishing in a time of 28.42 (previous record held was 28.84).

Championship records were also set by the following individual swimmers – Karen Hames (55-59 yrs) in both the 50m Freestyle 40.88 (previous record 41.32) and in the 100m Freestyle 1.32.72 (previously 1.35.06). Karen took home three Gold’s and one Silver medal.

Rebecca Dunning (18-24 yrs) set the only other Championship record in the 50m Freestyle event, setting a time of 29.11 (previously 29.19). Rebecca took home three individual Gold medals and two Relay Gold’s too.

Three County Masters Records were also set by Tommy Schneider (50-54 yrs) in the 100m Freestyle; Tom Richardson (18-24 yrs) in the 50m Backstroke and Rebecca Dunning (18-24 yrs) also in the 50m Backstroke.

Other swimmers who took part and scored valuable points and medals for the team were; Lucy Vickers, Sandy Brewer, Charlotte Elliott-Wright, Susanne Schneider, Kate Kemp, Helen Johnson, Jane Wright, Samantha Rogers, Jane Swaby, Helen Eke, Gillian Clifford, William Kemp, Adam McIntyre, James McIntyre, Ben Chapman, Mark Johnson, Jon Gant, Russell Gardner, Doug Eke, Gary Martin and club chairman Bob Wells.

Louth Masters and Seniors Coach, Sarah Richardson was very encouraged by her squads performance and extremely proud of them all and looks forward to making it five victories in a row in 2015!
