A substantial donation from Louth’s Mayor Andrew Leonard has helped make a splash in Louth Swimming Club’s funds.

He presented the cheque to the club’s Vice Chairman Graham Richadson and a selection of their members and coaches poolside at their home The Meridian Leisure Centre.

Bob Wells, Club Chairman, said: “The contribution will go a long way in helping our swimmers reach their goals and a massive boost to all the volunteers who spend many hours on poolside and behind the scenes.

“This will enable us to continue our long term aim for all our voluntary teachers/coaches to hold an ASA (Amateur Swimming Association) qualification.

“Steve Armstrong our Head Coach had a vision a few years ago that we would strive to be the best in the County and to achieve this we needed to be professional and qualified. Thanks to support like this we are nearly there.”

Coun Andrew Leonard said: “It is a pleasure to give the money to you all. I know it will be well spent and the dedication of the team, both helpers and competitors is one the best I have seen throughout my year in office”
