TWO members of Louth Athletic Club took part in the seventh running of the Newton’s Fraction Half Marathon, organised by Grantham Athletic Club at the weekend.
Starting and finishing at Grantham’s South Kesteven Sports Centre, the undulating course took in the picturesque villages of Barrowby, Casthorpe, Woolsthorpe and Denton, all ablaze with the colours of the early spring flowers.
Two of Louth’s senior squad, Debbie Simpson and Helen Cladingbowl were the club’s only representatives amongst the 500-strong field and Debbie is to be congratulated on a fine run, clocking a new personal best time of 1 hour and 42 minutes.
Debbie, having represented Lincolnshire the previous day at the inter-counties cross country championships at Birmingham, thought she would feel tired but was as surprised as anyone that she had ran so well.
Helen Cladingbowl, continuing her recovery from serious injury and following an excellent 17 mile training run a few days before as part of her build up for the Edinburgh Marathon in May, ranconservatively to finish in 1 hour and 47 minutes.
Sunday, March 18, Louth Athletic Club are staging their inaugural Belchford Three Churhces 10k starting at 11am from the village centre. All enquiries to John Jaines on 07775 291072.
