Despite some thunder and occasional showers, Pam Hayden and Stuart Hempshall were unfazed and led 56 members at Louth Golf Club with 40 stableford points to win the Greensomes Men’s Invitation to the Ladies’ for the Roy Player Trophy.

Second was Mary Haynes and Brian Castle, 35, with George Webster and Flis Smith, 33, third.

Gwilym Evans, 83, won the annual spring meeting of the Royal Air Force Golfing Society at Luffenham Heath Golf Club near Stamford, with 35 stableford points.

The trophy was presented to the society by Elizabeth Singer in 1956, in memory of her son killed in a flying accident. This is the third time Gwilym has won it since 1999.
