Carol, a member of Louth And District Disabled Archery Club, travelled to France with the British Visually Impaired Team to compete in the European Para Archery Championships at Saint Jean De Monts.

The Skegness archer was ranked a highly credible fifth in the B2/3 Class (partially sighted), but was beaten in the quarter-finals by the eventual bronze medallist Claudio Peruffo, from Italy.

Her clubmate Stuart, from Sutton–on–Sea, had also secured his place in the British VI team in the B1 Class (Blind), but missed out when his class was withdrawn from the event due to the lack of foreign competitors.

Back on home soil, both Carol and Stuart met stiff opposition at the National Sports and Conference Centre, at Lilleshall, when they competed in the Fletchers National Indoor VI Archery Championships.

The competition consisted of two sessions, each of five-dozen arrows, with the morning session shot at a distance of 25 metres at a 60cm target, and the afternoon session at a distance of 18m and at a 40cm target.

Both achieved personal bests, Stuart finishing second in the B1 Class, while Carol came third in the B2/3 Class.

With the arrival of the outdoor season, the club’s archers are concentrating on greater distances with the added challenge of weather conditions.

The club welcomes newcomers to attend their training sessions at Louth United FC at Marshlands, in Saltfleetby, on Tuesdays from 6pm to 8pm, and Saturdays from noon to 4pm.
