Kenwick Park: Chris lands first hole-in-one after throwing ball in lake

Dixon threw his old ball in the lake following a missed putt on the seventh green, during the third round of the Summer Series Tuesday night nine-hole stableford competition.

Taking a brand new replacement out of his bag for the 175-yard par three eighth hole, he teed off his five iron into a slight breeze and watched it pitch some four feet short, and take two small hops before disappearing for his first ace.

A field of 33 men then took part in the next round of the popular nine-hole stableford competition.

Kieran Towse (24) won with a great score of 23 points, to cut his handicap to 20. Runner-up Jamie Smith (17) finished with 22, a point ahead of third-placed Chris Parker (6).

* Good scores of nett 69 sealed victory for Dan Mountain and Mark Grayson in Division One and Two, respectively, of the August Medal.

Harry Wood came second in Division One with 76-6=70, and the next three places were decided by a countback on 71 with Dave Foxon (11) taking third spot ahead of men’s captain Graham Sykes (13) and Nigel Towse (11).

In Division Two, runner-up Steve Clarke narrowly missed out on countback to Mark after shooting 88-19=69. Mark Squires secured third place with 87-17=70 on another countback from Kevin Cowdroy (90-20=70).

Junior captain Harry Wood shot the best gross with a fine round of 76.

* Married couples played a mixed greensome stableford for the Newton Trophy.

A countback on 35 points separated the first three couples with lady vice-captain Andrea and husband Alan Smaggasgale winning.

Rob and Elaine Houlton came second ahead of Rob and Annie Oliver.

In the alternative competition for the non-wed couples, Ron Irwin and Val Pattinson won with 39 points.

* The ladies played a foursomes medal to decide who represents Kenwick Park in the national Daily Mail Foursomes competition next year.

Elaine Houlton (16) and her partner Freda Cooper (18), played really well to win with nett 72, from Val Pattinson (17) and Wendy Green (18) who were one shot behind.

In the ladies’ alternative 18-hole stableford, Vicki Halmshaw (27) and Chris Goldsbrough (32) both shot excellent scores of 40 to win the bronze and copper divisions, respectively.

Ladies vice-captain Andrea Smaggasgale won the silver with 31 points.
