Kenwick Park Golf Club book spot in Bramley Trophy finals

Defending champions Kenwick Park Golf Club reached the Bramley Trophy final after a 3-0 victory over fellow 2015 finalists Blankney.

After victories by captain Lewis Hackett (2) and Ashton Turner (-3), Bramley Trophy debutant Lewis Campbell (0) fought back from 3-down to win 2 and 1.

This now poses a selection headache for the captain prior to next month’s finals at Seacroft Golf Club.

* Kenwick Park member Lewis Campbell added the Woodhall Spa Men’s Championship to his recent victory in the RAF Matchplay Championship.

* Sunshine and showers greeted the 67 teams playing a betterball stableford on Men’s Invitation Day.

Dan Mountain and Liam Jaines (Louth) scored 42 points to win on a countback which spearated the next four pairings.

Sam Baines and Scott Morley (Louth) were the runners-up, with Steve Ashby and John Astbury (Laceby Manor) placed third. Lewis Hackett and Guy Shufflebotham (Louth) came fourth ahead of Karl Koslow and E. Koslow.

* Sue Fisher and her partner Rachel Barton, from Lincoln Golf Club, played well together to score 43 points and win Ladies’ Invitation Day.

Their playing partners Annie Oliver and Wendy Craven (Woodhall Spa) were just one point behind on 42 to finish second.

Ann Walker and Gill Kapka (Cleethorpes) took third place with 40 points on a countback from Jenny Baxter and Judy Wildon (Woodhall Spa).

Gill Kapka hit the longest drive on the fourth hole, and Terry Martin was nearest the pin for visitors at the second, while Birdie Dawson took the prize for the Kenwick members at the 17th fhole.

* The seniors section held their 2016 Open Day.

Sam Atkin rang Graham Sykes at 6pm the previous evening and asked him to stand in and they went on to win the event with a great score of 43 points.

William North (Cottingham Park) and Stephen Drake (Skidby Lakes) were runners-up with 42 points on countback ahead of Kenwick Park’s John King and Steve Ashby.

The next three pairings also scored 42 points, with Kenwick Park’s David Gelsthorpe and Eric Wright taking fourth place ahead of clubmates Karl Koslow and Lee Fisher. George Mason (Hornsea) and Stephen Johnson (Skidby Lakes) came sixth.

The two nearest-the-pin winners were Gus Robertson (Kenwick Park) at the 12th hole, and Suart Holburn (Lincoln) at the 17th.

Kenwick Park chairman John Beverley was nearest-the-pin-in-two at the ninth hole.

Men’s vice-captain John Teanby and Mike Walker won the prize for the team with the most points whose ages totalled at least 140.

Ladies from the Lincolnshire Wolds Riding for the Disabled Association, served the halfway house refreshments and received £200 of donations from the players.

The raffle raised £363 for the seniors captain Roger Culpin’s chosen charity, St Barnabas Hospice.
