Kenwick Park golf: Record field at early season medal

Sean Howsam and Nathan Price got off to a dream start with Nathan scoring 19 points on his first six holes as the pair reached the turn with 26 points in the bag. They finished with 45 points to win by two from runners-up Neil Calvert and Jeremy Hexton.

Nigel and Freddie Fearn took third spot with 41, and Mark Grayson and Smiler Hutson were fourth with 40 on a countback from Mick Horner and Ian Dickinson.

* A record 123-strong field played in the men’s April monthly medal.

John Hood shot an excellent round of 73-5=68 to win Division One and record the day’s best gross. Harry Wood was second with 77-8=69 ahead of Josh Baines (78-7=71).

Dan Thompson took top spot in division two with 88-16=72 from runner-up Graham Pennell (84-12=72) and Steve Blackburn (85-12=73) in third.

James Ward won Division Three with 93-19=74 with Mark Sherrington second on 95-20=75 on countback from Nick Allard.

* The tricky greens proved no problem for Jill Smith (20) who scored 36 points to win Division One at the 18-hole stableford on ladies’ day.

Birdie Dawson (8) claimed second place with 33 on a countback from ladies’ vice-captain Andrea Smaggasgale (9).

Rose Stevenson ((29) scored 33 points to win Division Two with Anne Gardiner (21) second on 32.

* On a day of mixed weather including wind, hail and rain, the senior men and ladies were drawn into teams of four for the J and M trophies.

Jill Smith won for the second day running with her playing partners of men’s vice-captain John Teanby, John Payne and Adrian Ellis. The team scored an impressive 81 points.

Bernard Stafford, Karl Koslow, Alan Rogers and Helen Sherratt came second with 77, and Gerald Brook, Gus Robertson, Mike Osmond and Jane Briggs took the final third prize with 75.

Martin and Jean Sizer sponsored the competition and the £160 entry fees were donated to the captains’ charities: Louth Hospice and the Louth branch of Parkinsons UK.
