Louth Golf Club defeat Kenwick Park in Town Challenge

The challenge has taken place every year since 1997 and this year it was the turn of Louth Golf Club to play host.

Squads of 16 players from each club represented the different sections – men, ladies, seniors and staff.

The competition involved a foursomes over nine holes in the morning followed by a matchplay format over 18 holes after lunch.

The whole competition was played out this year and wasn’t affected by the weather with Louth Golf Club running out convincing winners, beating Kenwick Park by 16 points to eight.

Louth Golf Club captains Mike Brader and Carole Craven were delighted to receive the trophy and look forward to trying to defend it next year.

* A quest to win Europe’s biggest pro-am begins for Louth GC member Dan Hughes and the club’s PGA professional Nicholas Taylor later this year.

The pair will tee up in the Lombard Trophy regional final at Fulford Golf Club on June 2, one of 14 regional finals being staged across the UK.

They will be up against 64 other clubs with the winners going through to compete in the 36-hole final at Portugal’s Pestana Vila Sol Golf & Hotel resort, on the Algarve, in September.

Hughes, a 30-year-old builder from Louth, won his club qualifying competition with a score of 43 points. He took up golf five years ago and plays off a handicap of 17, while Taylor (48) has been a professional at Louth for 16 years.
