Mablethorpe Running Club at the Boston Marathon (UK)

Mablethorpe Running Club sent eight members over to the inaugural Boston Marathon, held a day before its world-famous namesake in the United States.

Starting from the Market Place and passing the Blackfriars Theatre out towards Skirbeck, Freiston, Butterwick and Leverton Outgate, runners then headed back to Boston via Freiston Shore and Fishtoft.

In the full marathon, veteran Paula Downing was third lady home, finishing her 61st marathon in 3hr 15min 38secs, while Roger Blake ran his best marathon time of the year in 3.36.36.

In only her second marathon, Debbie Jinks knocked more than 10 minutes off her previous personal best with a fantastic time of 4.21.57, and Andrea Mettam, did well on her 26.2-mile debut, clocking a very respectable 4.43.19.

The 145-strong field was headed by Benjamin Harris (Retford AC) in 2.40.06.

Four more Mablethorpe runners lined up in the half-marathon.

On her fourth half-marathon, Lisa Musson came home in 2hr 36min 28secs after supporting clubmate Diane Holmes, in her second half, who finished in 2.45.32.

Helen Rice-Mundy was paced and supported by Carl Musson on her debut, crossing the line together in 2.48.05.

There were 129 finishers, led home by Richard Brown (Lincoln Wellington AC) in 1.12.33.
