Mountain and Brundett win Kenwick Park Men's Open

The annual Kenwick Park Men's Open was won by Daniel Mountain and Richard Bruntlett who played very well to card 50 points in the pairs betterball stableford.

Jeremy and George Hexton were runners-up with 47 on a countback from Nick Dawson and Dave Foxon, and Rick Towse and John Cryans (46) came fourth.

A count back on 45 separated the next four pairings: Harry Wood and John Rysdale, Kieren Towse and Neil Milson, Wayne Melton and Andy Jaines, Nigel and Freddie Fearn.

The day’s highlight for third-placed Nick Dawson, came early on as he aced the 175-yard par three second hole with a four hybrid club to claim his second hole-in-one.

Nick Harvey hit the longest drive on the 18th hole, Mike Greaseley (Woodhall Spa) was nearest-the-pin prize at the 12th, and Mick Loveday was nearest-the-pin-in-two at the ninth hole.

* Kenwick Park’s Lewis Campbell (1) won the prestigious RAF Matchplay Championship at Luffenham Heath Golf Club.

* In the Ladies’ Open AM/AM, the home team of three sisters Julia Labbett, Pam Hayward and Sue Peacock together with their friend Jane Briggs, won with a great 84 points.

Kenwick’s Birdie Dawson, Sue Fisher, Freda Cooper with Rachel Barton (Lincoln) were second with 81 on a countback from Kenwick’s Jenny Baxter and Julie Harvey, playing with Judy Wildon and Annie Oliver (Woodhall Spa).

The home team of Sue Sykes, Sue Burkitt, Sandra Crow and Helen Sherratt were fourth, also with 81, and Kenwick’s Tracey Stobart and Julia Sales playing with Sheryl Gee (Lincoln) and Jenny Burt (Elsham) took fifth spot with 80.

Judy Wildon (Woodhall Spa) won the nearest-the-pin prize for guests at the second, and Helen Sherratt won the members’ prize at the 12th hole.

* The seniors remembered their good friend Harry Marsh, who died in January, when they competed in the Harry Marsh Pairs.

After an individual stableford, this unique competition pairs up players in a blind draw and the pair with the best combined score wins.

Adrian Ellis (20) won the stableford with 36 points from Malcolm Bood (18) who was second with 35 on a countback from Graham Parkinson (22).

The pairing of Adrian Ellis and Dave Thurston claimed the trophy with a combined score of 68 ahead of Malcolm Bood and Terry Clark (64) and Bruce Wong and Graham Parkinson (63).

Harry’s partner Pam Powell kindly donated the prizes and presented the trophies.
