PBs for Mablethorpe Running Club trio at Greater Manchester Marathon

Mablethorpe Running Club trio Elaine Wilson, Sharon Wheatley-Margarson and Andrew Tomlin took part in the 40th ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon on Sunday.

Elaine and Sharon ran the fast, flat course two years ago and Andrew is no stranger to the GMM, returning for the third time.

The streets were flooded with runners with a huge 9,364 finishers.

Elaine and Sharon were on a fundraising mission for the Breast Cancer Now charity for which they are also running the Virgin London Marathon later this month.

Elaine ran a course personal best, finishing 7,279th in 4hr 44min 40secs, while Sharon set a new marathon PB, crossing the line in 6,651st in 4.33.38. Andrew also clocked a marathon PB, finishing 1,822nd in 3.30.03.

* Robert Hawse was in action at the Costello Stadium in Hull on Sunday for the Kingston Upon Hull Spring Open Meeting.

Rob ran the 3000m as he did at the same venue last year, and for the third time in 2016 secured third place in a personal best of 9min 34.9secs.

* Paula Downing travelled down to Bedfordshire to take part in the Sandy 10-Mile Road Race.

The popular race, organised by Biggleswade Athletic Club, attracted 477 competitors.

Paula finished 69th in 1hr 08min 21secs to finish second vet female 45. Jordan Clay (Leighton Buzzard AC) won in 57min 02secs, and winning female was Georgia Wood (unaffiliated) in 1.06.28 (50th overall).

* Closer to home, Roger Blake lined up in a 90-strong field at Boston and District AC’s 18th Friskney Half-Marathon on Sunday.

Having run the course for the past four years, Roger knew what to expect and managed a half-marathon personal best, finishing 16th and third male vet 40 in 1hr 33min 08secs.
